Hall of Fame: A Message from MRPA Past President

Marilyn Troshak

Past President, 1997

As a young Parks and Recreation professional, one of my earliest goals regarding MRPA was to become the first female president…..well, someone beat me to that, but I was the second! During these years, I was influenced by many factors, not the least being the “older” professionals who taught me the good, the bad and the ugly about parks and recreation and life in general (as experienced during several MRPA basketball tournaments and conferences!)

Don’t overlook your more experienced peers. The life lessons you’ll receive are invaluable and you may just end up with a friend for life. I am very proud to say that many of the Hall of Fame inductees are good friends from years of volunteering and working together. I am in awe of all of their accomplishments in the field and in life. Out of respect and friendship, I will be at the Hall of Fame Banquet on October 3 cheering, crying and clapping all the way through for each and every inductee. Why don’t you join me?

I’m proud to be associated with such a fine group of people. I can now also say many of the “younger” professionals are my friends and I am confident the tradition of learning the “good, bad and the ugly” will continue for many years to come! Someday, I’ll be cheering and clapping for them as they are inducted into the Hall of Fame too!

Congratulations to the 2013 Class of Hall of Fame Inductees!
