MRPA Committees
Responsible for establishing, enforcing, and interpreting all athletic rules that pertain to the provision and administration of MRPA athletic tournaments. Meets at least four times per year.
Recognizes professional excellence through an awards program noting outstanding contributions to the association, the profession and community service.
Beginning in 2008, the Board will transition all state certification records to NRPA for administration. The Board reviews and approves requests for CEU session accreditation and communicates with members on all current certification information. Meets monthly on the 2nd Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the MRPA office.
Plans and organizes the MRPA Annual Conference. This includes site selection, general sessions, exhibit hall, education workshops, keynote speakers, and entertainment. Meets as needed.
Represents the interests and rights of minorities in the profession. The committee provides opportunities for networking, involvement, and representation on all committees. It enhances avenues for recognition and profession growth within MRPA and encourages minorities/women to become members of the Association. Meets as needed.
Works with the staff communications and marketing manager to develop and implement efficient and effective communication for the association, both internal communications reaching all MRPA members; and external communications highlighting MRPA and its activities to the citizens of Michigan and beyond. Also, responsible for developing, enhancing, and marketing MRPA publications/ services to its members and public. Also attempts to increase member benefits. Meets monthly.
Recruits and recognizes new members, review membership categories, dues structure, and makes recommendations to the Board. Also attempt to increase member’s benefits.
MRPA FOUNDATION MISSION
The Michigan Recreation and Park Association Foundation is committed to enhancing quality of life experiences for all people by supporting community enrichment, research, advocacy and professional development of Park and Recreation professionals, students, and citizen advocates.
NERPA – The geographic area served is Macomb County, St. Clair County, and Northeastern Wayne County.
Service Area: Oakland County, Highland Park, the North or West districts of Detroit, or those within close proximity.
Northwest Parks and Recreation Association shall promote professional growth; study and discuss current issues and trends; and provide a resource to Association members for interagency programming, cooperation, communication and exchange of program ideas.
Creates and maintains awareness of Park Resources and identifies areas of concern. This includes such items as planning, recommending and participating in seminars and workshops as well as reference and technical assistance. Meets monthly.
The Past President’s committee shall have representation as a professional committee of the MPRA representing all former presidents who served the Michigan Recreation and Park Association in the past. The chairperson serves as the direct liaison to the MRPA board and the office.
Works with other committees such as the Conference Committee to develop and implement professional development and training for MRPA members and others through workshops, conference sessions, and other training opportunities.
Gives recreation programmers the opportunity to network programs, resources, and ideas on a state level. Meets at least quarterly. Meetings are held at rotating locations. 2008 Meeting Dates Just Announced! Mark your calendars!
Monitors state and federal legislation dealing with parks, tourism, and recreation issues; recommends positions to the MRPA Board and keeps the membership informed. Meets monthly.
Develops fund-raising events to benefit Recreation/Park students in Michigan universities and colleges through promotion of its scholarship and internship programs. Administers awarding of scholarships/internships each year. Meets monthly.
Establishes policies and events pertaining to MRPA Senior Citizen activities. Currently, our committee offers an opportunity for networking on existing senior programs as well as creating programs for the baby boomers. Meets quarterly - Locations varies.
SMPRA is a fun, energetic group that meets monthly to discuss current trends share successfull programs and problem solve the not so successful. SMRPA offers several workshops, fundraisers and is very active in the MRPA Conference. SMRPA membership covers south central Michigan, come join us!
GERMS –We serve the downriver Detroit area. We four times per year to dicuss current trends and happenings in recreation. A great way to network and create new patnerships too! Our meetings feature a variety of guest speakers and useful information. Check out our events listing for meeting dates and topics! Can't wait to see you there!
Establishes all policies, procedures, and events regarding involvement with MRPA by students in Michigan colleges and universities. A professional member serves as an advisor to the committee. Meets monthly September – May.
Provides a broad range of services to enable therapeutic recreation professionals to function effectively in their field as well as well as to enhance professional growth and development. Meets bi-monthly and as needed.
Promotes statewide network of trails, greenways, and water trails. This committee will enhance the movement of trail advancement nationally and statewide to the trail community. Recreation opportunities will be promoted to enhance quality of life, influencing landscape and diverse accessibility.
Welcome to the West Michigan Recreation and Park Association! For over 20 years, the WMRPA has been working to provide professional development, networking and program opportunities to parks and recreation professionals throughout the West Michigan area. WMRPA provides members with resources to strengthen the professional base as well as educating the citizens of West Michigan about the importance of parks and recreation in their community.
