A New Year's Message from MRPA

Welcome to 2012! As a new year begins, the Michigan Recreation and Park Association would like to take a moment to thank you for your membership and involvement with the Association.

In recent years, the parks and recreation profession has faced a variety of challenges – cuts to statewide revenue sharing funds, budget reductions, and the constant challenge to justify the services provided by departments, to name just a few.

Yet the opportunities for parks and recreation are many. Scientific research and economic studies continue to confirm what we already know – that the services provided by park and recreation departments create vibrant places and contribute to the future of a prosperous Michigan. The value of parks and recreation is undeniable, and in the coming year, MRPA will provide you the resources and tools you’ll need to tell your department’s park and recreation story.

2012 marks a new beginning for MRPA – and it all starts at the Annual Conference & Trade Show. Join us for sessions, speakers and special events taking place February 8-10, with four Pre-Conference Sessions  (AFO, NPSI, TRI and Trails Summit) on February 6-7. We will be unveiling new member services and various partnerships throughout the week-long event, and will provide tools you can use to enhance your operations immediately following Conference.

We are excited to begin a new chapter of MRPA history with members this year. Thank you for your involvement, your membership, and for the services you provide to your community. Michigan residents need parks and recreation now more than ever. We look forward to working together to make 2012 a great year for parks, recreation and leisure services statewide!

Wishing you health and happiness in 2012,

Your Michigan Recreation and Park Association
